Scholar of world religions Huston Smith says that Jesus and the Buddha were the only two individuals in history who caused people to ask “what are you?” rather than “who are you?” In this retreat, we will explore how the religions that have emerged from the teachings of these two spiritual giants can mutually enrich one another. Our time together will be structured to allow for both conceptual learning and contemplative practice, with a healthy dose of leisure and relaxation included.

Retreat leader Clay Williams is a scientist who also holds a master’s degree in systematic theology. Clay studied with and received the Buddhist precepts from Thich Nhat Hanh, and is the founder of Living Christ Sangha, an interfaith Zen community at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in NYC. This will be an enriching retreat for all who are interested in how interfaith dialogue moves beyond an exchange of ideas to grounded practice and compassionate action.
